Dad's Legacy

These two swings mean a lot to the family. They were lovingly crafted by my father for the benefit of his grandchildren. It started with the plain wooden plank he made while he was in the Navy. Two or three years later, I brought home a piece of wooden plank which was part of a shipment from US. It was the only piece that was not thrown away yet and I ask my workmate for that piece of plank. Not knowing what to really do with it, eventually I brought it home to Dad and told him to do whatever he wanted to. A month later, I came home to see the seated swing. Dad said, it would be easier for his younger than four-year old grandchildren. He really had safety of his grandchildren in mind then.

Both swings had seen a lot of fights between the grandchildren, laughter, love especially from dad and many meetings were held here. These were the centre of 'congregation' for the children, grandchildren, friends and/or relatives children. This was always the place to be for the children and grandchildren.

Alas, three years after dad's passing, the swings became a legacy. In its place, a store room was erected where mum store the bulky household items. I really am glad to have taken a photo of the swings that once held a piece of our history and our memories.
