Competition

Hi friends! I created a layout once again.
This is my take for Scrap Africa finale challenge with inspirational mood board to follow.
The photos showed Zahra' riding Dodoe before and after her Dressage Competition. See how stressed she was before the competition and a sigh of relief once it was over.
(Location : Royal Selangor Club)

Supplies: Kaisercraft pp, Bazzil Cardstock, UW Scrapbooking pp, Kaisercraft flowers, Micia Wooden Set Alpha Stamps, Micia Ink, Stamplo stamps

I picked some shades of greens from the mood board and yellows as well.

I wish to express my thank you to Scrap Africa for all the inspirations you have given me all the while. Thank you very much.

Much love,

Shining Star

Hi there! This is my first entry for a Russian Blog Fairy's Challenges. There seem to be linky problems at the moment and therefore I couldn't sign up as a follower and link up my entries to all these challenges. Anyway, I'll try again later.

I used Sketch No. 20 to create this layout. This sure is a challenging task as I have to use 8 tiny photos. It is tough actually. Well, fortunately for me, I captured a series of these photos of Moussa Taki who is my daughter's school mate before the start of his 400 m race where he won a Bronze Medal.

At the same, I used the Scrap Around The World March Mood Board challenge. I know my highlight is more of Green and Red more.

Here's the Fairy's Challenges sketch:

Here's the Scrap Around The World March Mood Board:

I would also like to enter this layout for Scrap Africa challenge No. 27 - Stars and Stitching. I did a little stitching at the top right of my layout and added a few stars here and there. Off course, Moussa is the biggest STAR of all.

Here's the layout:

Cousins

This layout is for Home and Scrapped challenge by Kerri-Anne. Her rule is simple - use Washi Tapes. I have 5 in my collection and for this layout, I used up all five. Thus the mix and match of colours.
The photos are of my husband, Muhammad and his cousin, Ibrahim, from Bengkulu (Bencoolen), Sumatera. The family had not seen Ibrahim for 40 years and when Ibrahim decided to make that trip in 2010, it was the first time I met another another family member from over the sea.

ME

This layout is for SYTYCS05 at Colourful Creations. We were to use the sketch provided (see Street Artist) which is a PgeMap sketch. The twist to creating this layout are:
1) distressing - used scissors
2) a recylced item - Prima paper backing
3) tearing
I met all the criteria for this challenge.
I didn't work on this challenge immediately because it's a repeat sketch for me and I don't quite like doing the same thing twice. Anyway, this time I tried to follow the sketch to a tee; off course, with not much success.I decided to scrap myself for a change and I chose 2 of the photos (shot by my hubby) of myself and one of the mosque which was the backdrop. I did a lot of cropping here and I am beginning to like the process.
Here's the layout:
Location: Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque, Johor Bharu
Supplies: Nikki Sivils; K&Company, Paper boutique
Embellies - Momoyo, Paper Boutque, from stash

The Train Ride

When we went to Singapore for a day trip by train in August 2010, little did we know this was going to be our first and Swan song ride to Tanjung Pagar. The following year, the Malaysian Prime Minister surrendered Tanjung Pagar to the President of Singapore behind a closed door meeting. No one knows what actually transpired but what we do know is that another Malaysian Heritage is lost to Singapore, yet again. I wish I had taken a lot of photos around Tanjung Pagar as a final remembrance.
This layout is created for the Colourful Creations GDT challenge following this sketch:

Supplies: Kaisercraft The 13Hr Collection; Love Notes Collection, Utopia Collection

The Joys of Motherhood

Another layout for Colourful Creations. This time it's for DT Roulien Stanhnke's Challenge - Counting Blessings. This is her challenge:
February is the month of love!! Scrap about someone or something you love having in your life!

Requirements for this challenge:
1. Use a minimum of 2 photos on your page;
2. Use at least 3 hearts . . . they can be punched, brads, misted, cut from paper . . . anything as long as I can count at least 3;
3. Handwritten journaling;
4. 4 or more brads

I decided to use photos of my mum and my daughter for this layout. The reason is very simple. Both of them had taught me the full meaning of Motherhood. Mum showed me by example; though, I admit half of my life I don't really understand her role fully. All I know is she is there to care for my needs, prepare food for us to eat, buy things we or the family need. She was there when I came from school; she was there when I need someone to talk to (not all the time I can confide in her, though); she was there to reprimand me or to groom me. She was just a responsible mother who sets those examples for me and my sisters to follow. It wasn't until I become a mother, I realise her full responsibility. She took care of me and my baby during confinement. She taught me how to bring up my baby and till today she never cease to remind me how to care for my daughter. She is still always there when I need her and it is always soothing to hear her voice.
As for my daughter, she is a beautiful girl growing up. I still miss the first year of her life where the baby sitter enjoyed her first words, her first food, her first steps and her first milk tooth. In the long run, she taught me the meaning of patience, the meaning of controlling my anger, the meaning of mother-daughter friendship and the meaning of caring. Both of them taught me great lessons in life and they are my Blessings.
This is the layout to show how much they mean to me and how grateful I am for having them.

Location: Melaka and Ampang, respectively
Supplies: Kaisercraft Love Notes Collection
Kaisercraft Rub-ons
Flowers - Momoyo, Petaloo
Hearts - Momoyo, KCK, KaisercraftBrads - Momoyo
Tag - Kaisercraft

Love

It's nice that today, February 1, 2013, is a holiday - Federal Territory Day. Taking a break from housework, I decided to browse the challenges for February.

Many of the challenges I sighted for the month of February is related to LOVE. This layout is for Colourful Creations "Say it with Words" and the word is LOVE. It's not that difficult to find photos relating to this theme and to kick-start the month's challenge, I decided to use this photo of my daughter and her cousins. The are a bunch of rowdy young kids and they always have plenty of ideas up their sleeve. They enjoy being together and they really love one another very much - and not to mention their occassional bickering. It's just a simple layout put together for these lovely children whose parents are my younger sister and youngest brother, respectively.

Location: Melaka
Supplies: Kaisercraft Love Notes Collection (PP/Chipboard Heart/Tag/Border/Stickers)
Momoyo Flowers
Momoyo Brads
Momoyo Swirls

Adhesion Flower and sentiments (a gift from Marlene Letendre)

Illy

To be honest, this is the most challenging layout I've ever done. I am not quite happy with the end result, though, but then, rules are rules. The only time I can break this rule is to create another layout in another challenge and see what I can come out with. I am sure Brenshevia do not mind my using this sketch again.
This layout is for Colourful Creations SYTYCS04 challenge and the rules are as follows:

YOU MUST USE:
  • Diecut (bought or handmade)`SMILIAR TO THE ONE IN THE SKETCH!!!
  • 3 photos
  • colors in combo ONLY (Color Combo: Colors: White, Black, Cream, Grey)

The sketch

Select ONE from the list below to use
Masking
Bling
Brads
Flowers
Stars

NOTE PLEASE READ: you can ONLY use on of the items listed above, however you can use more than one of that item for example, if you choose to use stars, you can use more than one star but you CANNOT use anything else on the list so then your list of items would be (diecut, 3 photos, color combo and stars) nothing more.

Location: Kuala Kubu Bharu
Supplies: Kaisercraft the 13th Hour collection; Paper boutique; Coredinations Cardstock
Momoyo Flowers
Foam Alphas
Decorative Scissors
The most difficult process in creating this layout is not to be able to embellish it with only the required item. As it was too bland, I decided to add those chunky flowers for added dimension. I hope I'll make it through this round, though.
I like this sketch. I may use it again later to create another layout. I'll see what the DTs in colourful Creations will have in store for February.

Blessed

I am truly blessed because I still have my mom. She means the world to me and I really love her very much. I created this layout for Colourful Creations "Say It With Words Challenge and the Word for January 2013 is BLESSED. I wasn't sure which photos to choose because I am blessed for having my husband, my daughter, my sisters, my brothers, my extended family, my job, my health, etc., etc. The Hearts that I bought from Wedding Favours changed all that. My heart was calling out to me to scrap this photo of myself with my dearest mommy. Thank you to my brother, Muhammad Nasser for this photo. As I grow in age, my time with my mom is very limited and photos with her is getting rare. Here's the layout:
Location: Melaka
Supplies: Kaisercraft Love Note, Unknown from stash
Flowers - Prima
Bling from stash
American Craft Thickers Alpha
Momoyo Ribbon
Momoyo Brad
Decorative Lace
Doilies
Vintage Doilies from Papercraft Mag
Kaisercraft Rubons
I also entered this layout to Sketches4all Challenge under Lisa's Monthly Mayhem and her January Challenge was "Out With The Old, In With The New". Here's the term & conditions:

OK, ladies! Time to kick off a new year with some more scrapping mayhem. In keeping with the recent New Year festivities, I am challenging you to use up your old supplies and show off your new goodies.

Rules:
1. Project must include at least one item you have had in your stash for a year or more AND at least one item that is new in the last 30 days (come on - admit it... do any of us really go more than 30 days without adding SOMETHING new to our stash?)
2. The new item can include paper, embellishments, ribbons, stamps, ink, even new tools you may have acquired in the past month (e.g., I was lucky to get a Silhouette Cameo from Santa that you can bet I'll be using).
3. The old item should be something that you are truly using up - paper, embellishments, etc. Since the challenge is partly about "out with the old" the idea is to reduce your stash (to make room for new stuff - ha ha) so just using an old tool or old stamp isn't good enough.
4. Any type of project is OK - layouts, cards, tags, altered items, mixed media
5. Project must be new as of today
6. Project must be posted to this thread and to the gallery by January 31 11:59pm PST
7. OK to combine with other challenges

All of my supplies with the exception of the vintage doilies (2 days old) and the hearts (one day old) were from 2010 to 2012.

Street Artist

This man has devoted himself to 20+ years as a Street Artist at this Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque, earning his keep selling his beautiful work of art to tourists. He was holding one of his completed work ready to be bought by appreciative tourists. My daughter preferred the serene Village Scene and at my daughter's request, he drew the scenery for her. DANCE - SYTYCS02

This layout is for Colorful Creations 2nd So You Think you Can Scrap Challenge. Somehow I just don't feel overly excited with the finished layout. Probably I am so out of focus when I created this layout. I was thinking of mum and I really miss her very much.
Here's the sketch:

And here's the layout. I chose a photo I took in 2009 of a Javanese dance which was performed during Inacraft - an Indonesian Craft Fair at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. I love the colourful costumes and the graceful movements of the dancers.

Too Tame

This is my first layout for Home and Scrapped site as well as Scrappy Sketches Blog challenge. Heather has some beautiful sketches on her blog and this is my first attempt using her January sketch.
These photos were part of the Bird Park visit in Jan 2011. Hubby was feeding the Lorikeets which were tame enough to feed off your hands and love to be stroked, too. We paid RM2 (approximately Aussie 60 cents) for the food. After getting over the awkwardness of handling these birds, we were able to relax and enjoy their company immensely.
Location: Bird Park, Kuala Lumpur
Supplies : PP - Kaisercraft Cheers / Creative imaginations Mistletoe Swirls
Kaisercraft wooden Flourishes
Kaisercraft Seaside Tag

Momoyo Flower
Washi Tape

Sketch 01-13
I also entered this layout for Colorful Creations Random Wednesday January 8, 2013 to January 15, 2013. The challenge is to use a holiday paper in a non-traditional way.

Together Our Life Is An Adventure

This layout is created for the Boysrulescrapbookkits Sketch challenge. I decided to give the sketch a twist and, yes, I overdid it. Hmm.....since I like this sketch very much, I may do another layout using this sketch.
The photo is of Muhammad at Ipoh Railway Station. We were trying out the ETS while it was on promotion. The tiny photo of myself and our daughter was an added interest to the overall layout to show that together as as family we can create an adventure.  following is the sketch:

Here's the layout:
Location : Ipoh Railway Station
Supplies : Pp - BasicGrey Sweetpea Jack Collection; Kaisercraft; Paper Boutique
Momoyo Stickers
Paper Boutique Alphas and Sentiments
Momoyo Flower
WeReMemoryKeepers Chipboard
Sunlit border Punch

Close-up - using Sunlit heart punch, I punch-out the tiny photo that would otherwise not been used at all. By adding this tiny photo, I double-it up as an embellishment as well as a family insert.

When Truth Hurts

This layout is for Colorfulcreations Guest DT Sketch challenge.  Following is the sketch:

Zahra' was feeling very down and hurt after hearing some revealations from her friends. The news were revealed at the most inappropriate time - the eve of her birthday. In order to distract her mind, we decided to treat her to an early birthday lunch at Warisan Restaurant. It was a success but the pain she is feeling is too much for her to bear. She's such a strong young girl and I admire her grit.
Well, sometimes it is nice to have an alibi who helped to keep me updated what's going on in the scrapping world. Thank you to my lovely sister, Asmah, who e-mailed me this sketch and I used up my lunch time to create this layout with whatever materials I had on hand. I simply gave the finishing touches at home.

Gutsy Girl

Good evening. Such a warm evening at the time of writing. One thing I do hope for is that my laundry is all dried. Just waiting to be taken in, folded, ironed and arranged where they should belong.
I decided to revisit my layouts that were not completed for whatever reasons and this is one layout that I started way back in 2011 and totally forgotten after the stitching was done. Rummaging through my stash, I came upon the perfect title for this layout. So I got excited to complete it, finally.
Occassionally, the family would take a drive to Kuala Selangor and try to stop at Bukit Melawati to admire the scenes from uphill. There are also remnants of what used to be the fort and probably the old palace and the most distinct historical evidence is the stone slab were one of the princess was beheaded. I like to come to this hill because this place has a lot of photographic interest - historically as well as naturally. One of the highlights up here is feeding the monkeys. One just has to get used to having these primates come up close 'begging' for food. They're a friendly lot and once you can can overcome your fear over them, you may have them climb all over you and enjoy them. This is what happened to Zahra'. As soon as she conquered her fears, she had so much fun playing with them. She spent most of her money on food to feed them. I told her, next time we visit, we'll bring our own food for them.

Moments To Enjoy

I just like this photo of Mohd Ghazi, taken by one of Zahra's friends. He seemed to be so lost in his own world while slowly sipping the drink. From this photo alone I can make a few hypothesis about this young man at this moment of time. For this layout, I decided to imagine him thinking about Moments to Enjoy.

This layout was created based on colorfulcreations Guest Designer, Camila Ekman, sketch.

Here's my take on the challenge. I gave the sketch a twist by creating my layout horizontally, instead.

Model - Mohd Ghazi
Supplies - PP: Kaisercraft Class of '87 / The Paper Loft / Paper Boutique
Sentiments - Paper Boutique / Kaisercraft Class of '87
Home Deco Lace
Mark's Sticker

This layout is part of the Kuala Kubu Baru album I am creating for Zahra'. Thank you to Zahra' and her friends for all the beautiful photos. TFL.

This layout is for colorfulcreations "Say it With words" challenge. The word for the month is Blessing. I always love Nature and these photos taken at Kuala Kubu Baru reflect the calm and serene nature of the area. I always love the quaint and quiet little town that still preserve it's Natural Heritage.

Location - Kuala Kubu Baru

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my daughter's friend(s) for taking these photos. These were taken suring their Class's  day trip to Kuala Kubu Baru.

Flower Child - Scrapfit Warm-Up #31 Challenge

Finally, I am back to my creating board. This layout is for scrapfit challenge. The challenge is in Missy's words : This Warm-Up may or may not be a challenge for some of you. I know we fall into our comfort zones a lot and it's hard to break free. This challenge is all about patterned paper. That doesn't sound so bad, does it? Well, your challenge is to use patterned paper as your background...NO CARDSTOCK backgrounds! There are really busy patterned papers out there and then there are some not-so-busy ones...you can use whatever you choose...just no cardstock. Using cardstock elsewhere is perfectly fine.
For this layout, I used up items from my overgrown stash. Really need to purge before buying new ones.
Pp: Collage Press Citrus Collection,
Creative8,
Kaisercraft Love notes
Momoyo Buttons
Kaiser Flowers
Petaloo Flowers
Delfino Brads
Karl Craft border Punch
Momoyo StickerMomoyo Alphas

The choice of title is a reflection of Zahra's name which in Arabic means flowers. Since the background pattern papaer is very busy, I decided to be minimal for this layout. Thank you for looking.

Selection Time - Colourful Creations Challenge

Today is the 2nd day of the fasting month. At least today is less tiring compared to yesterday.
This layout was created for DT Andrew of Colourful Creations under "Word Challenge". THE WORD FOR JULY IS TIME This is a combination challenge and for this month I will give you two extra items. As well as the word I would like to see some : LAYERING AND LACE.
These photos were taken last year when Zahra' was selected to participate in the Gymkhana competition in conjunction with the International Polo Meet at the Royal Selangor Polo Club. This was a tense moment for the Adni students under the tutelage of Ali because only 6 students will be selected to represent Adni School. These students will combine with Ali's other students from other schools. It was also a tense moment for me because I was hoping Zahra' will be selected. It will be a big moment for her after weeks of practicing Horseback Riding. I was elated when she was selected.
Her team emerge as runner-up for the competition.
Supplies: Pp : Treasureyourmemories / Coredinations Cardstock / Delfino Brads / Kaisercraft Tag and Sentiment / Paper Boutique Alpha and Sticker / Sunlit Border Punch / Self-adhesive lace / Doily.
I used the Paper Boutique stickers that came with the Kit. I decided to stick the stickers onto a strip of pattern paper from my stash and adhere the title to the layout using double-sided foam adhesive.
I love the sentiment from the Kaisercraft collection and these are really appropriate for the occassion.
